The New Zealand Antarctic Society Inc. was formed in 1933. A Membership to the Society entitles members to Antarctic, the Journal of the New Zealand Antarctic Society.

The Antarctic is a full colour, magazine-style, quarterly publication. It is unique in Antarctic literature as it is the only periodical which provides regular and up to date news of the activities of all nations, non-governmental organisations and private expeditions at work in Antarctica and Southern Ocean.

For 2005, publication dates for Volume 22 are as follows:

  • No. 1 - May 30
  • No. 2 - July 30
  • No. 3 - September 30
  • No. 4 - November 30
  • For the above publications the deadline for final submission of articles, photos, letters to the editor and misc information is as follows:

  • No. 1 - May 1 (Now closed)
  • No. 2 - July 1 (Now closed)
  • No. 3 - September 1 (open for submissions)
  • No. 4 -November 1 (open for submissions)
  • The Editor welcomes articles from Society members and non-members alike but reserves the right to refuse to publish an article for any reason whatsoever. Note that all articles will be submitted for editorial review before publishing.

    The following is a guide for contributors:

    1. Electronic versions preferred, Word format preferred, submitted via email to the address below or via CD or disk.
    2. Any Photos/images must be supplied on CD in high resolution format or emailed as a high resolution compressed jpeg file. (Please consult Editor before emailing any large attachments).
    3. The preferred length for feature articles is 1000 - 2000 words, with up to four - five images.
    4. Letters to the Editor must include name and contact details of sender.

    The Editor can only accept original pieces of work-that is if you would like to submit something from the web or the newspaper etc, you must rewrite the information in your own words and submit it with a copy of the original for consideration.

    We welcome articles at any time on any subject relating to Antarctica, the sub-Antarctic Islands and the Southern Ocean.
